Our Story

If you engage our services, we will encourage you to promote your organization’s mission by telling stories about your work. Here’s our story.

Sales & Teaching

Neither of us set out to become professional fundraisers. Joe had a long career in sales and dealer development; Pamela had been teaching Business Communications and English Literature at the local university.

Shifting to Development

For a number of years, we worked together as the Development department at Lutheran Theological Seminary Saskatoon. Joe continued living in Calgary and, for the most part, worked remotely. His speciality is donor relations, and he made many phone calls. He also travelled across Western Canada, meeting with donors in their homes, recruiting students, and helping Pamela run seminary events.

Pamela went into the office most days and did things that needed to be done within the building: opening, entering, receipting, and acknowledging donations; maintaining the donor database; improving the IT; designing, editing, and creating the seminary magazine, brochures, capital campaign documents, the course offerings booklet, and other publicity. She also took almost all the photographs from 2007 – 2016 and created the social media posts.

Joe, working from his home in Calgary, discovered that he loved making phone calls and personal visits. In addition to connecting with donors, he connected with prospective students and helped them find ways of overcoming the obstacles that were preventing them from coming to seminary. His previous career had required considerable travel, so he felt very comfortable driving from Thunder Bay to Vancouver to Grande Prairie while making these visits.

Becoming Faithful Servants

We both ended up leaving LTS in the summer of 2016. A few organizations reached out to us asking if we would be interested in helping out with fundraising-related tasks. Sometimes, this also involved strengthening communications. After a while, we found we really missed talking to donors, creating beautiful documents, and raising money. And so, early in 2017, Faithful Servant Consulting was formed.

The Next Chapter (You!)

This work is gratifying for us. We have loved learning the stories of our various clients over the past few years and would love to hear yours!
